The Scoop on Nutrition

Description: Join us as we get a veterinary student’s perspective on what nutrition is and explore the impact nutrition has on the health of our animals. This includes a discussion of the consequences associated with poor nutrition. We’ll discover how nutrition can be your first line of defense against the serious issues of obesity and diabetes, and how we can live happier, healthier lives with our pets. Veterinary anatomy specimens will be used to show parts of the digestive system.

Description: Unlock the mystery of the skeleton as we learn all about what bones are and how they function for the human and animal body. Discover what a fracture is and how the body can fix them. Become informed about innovative new research that is helping humans with bone disorders. Veterinary students from Texas A&M University will use anatomy specimens and x rays to show you the skeleton in a way you have never seen before!

Animal Behavior: Decoded!

Description: Join us as we decode and explore important animal behavior questions. How do I know when my pet is feeling happy, anxious, or aggressive? What do I do if I encounter a wild animal? What is rabies, and why do we need to vaccinate our pets against it? This will be a fun and interactive presentation while learning some of the many ways animals can communicate with humans. Veterinary students from Texas A&M University will present this program.

Videoconferencing connects your students with scientists, doctors, and experts in their fields with a LIVE interactive two-way experience with your school or from COSI.

HEC-TV Live!
Each program takes students live to artists, attorneys, archivists, or historians, in their own workspace be it a studio, rehearsal hall, theater, library, museum, or office.  Programs are sixty minutes in length and presented during regular school day hours. Calendar.

Library of Congress
Free programs are appropriate for teachers, librarians, media specialists, and university faculty.  Events may be scheduled Monday–Friday, during normal working hours, Eastern time. Times are flexible, depending on Library staff availability, time zone differences, and varied work schedules across the country. Programs should be requested at least two weeks in advance of the proposed conference date.

National Parks
Click the above link to access participating sites.  Those parks offer distance learning programs that may allow them to share curriculum-based programming about the park with your students through the web, audio or video conferencing. Please bear in mind that there may be limitations to the scope and technical compatibility between the park programs and those at your school. Contact the park for details.

National Baseball Hall of Fame
The next best thing to visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame is participating in a videoconference. Pacific Historic Parks (USS Arizona/Pearl Harbor)
Not everyone can visit the USS Arizona Memorial personally. The Witness to History Videoconferencing program provides students and educators on both a national and international level with a unique and invaluable distance learning opportunity dedicated to the history of December 7, 1941. Through firsthand accounts, artifact examination, and expert historical interpretation the events surrounding the Pearl Harbor attack come alive for students.

Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum
Where can you explore more than 500 million years of history across 26,000 square miles under one roof? Since opening as a one-room gallery called Pioneer Hall in 1933, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum has become the largest history museum in Texas. PPHM is committed to bringing new and engaging exhibits to students and teachers and demonstrating our relevance to every generation every day. PPHM's collections encompass a range of diverse subjects including art, history, archeology, paleontology, ethnology, geology, petroleum, textiles, weapons, transportation and sports. Polycom's Content Providers Searchable Database

Polycom provides a free searchable database which offers educators worldwide access to more than 2,100 programs from content providers, making available video conferencing programs for the classroom. Updated daily, the database contains content opportunities from organizations such as zoos, museums, author's experts in the field and much more. Polycom partners with Berrien RESA to bring you this database.


Pro Football Hall of Fame
Each year, thousands of students tour the Pro Football Hall of Fame to learn about the rich history of professional football.  If your class can’t make the trek to Canton, Ohio, let the Hall of Fame bring the museum to your school through its award-winning videoconferencing programs. Each program is educationally based and is supplemented by classroom activities which are aligned with national standards of education. Join in on these programs to learn such things as media literacy, history, careers, geography, math, language arts, character education and visual arts.

Saint Louis University School of Medicine - Cadaver Demonstration
Students will participate in an interactive human cadaver demonstration through videoconferencing (distance learning). The demonstration will expose students to the physiological and anatomic relationships of the major organ systems of the human body and describe to them how those systems can be affected by disease.
