Region 16 sees this program as a wonderful opportunity to honor the education profession in recognizing outstanding teachers, so representative of the Panhandle area.

The Texas Education Agency is the official sponsor of the Texas Teacher of the Year program.  AT&T provides major corporate support for this program.  Other major sponsors are H-E-B, Dell, Inc., SMART Technologies (SMART Board, NEC Solutions, AlphaSmart, Elnstruction Corporation, Kar2ouche), Texas Association of School Business Officials, Southern Security Life College Fund, Mike A. Guidelines:

Districts may nominate up to two teachers, one elementary and one secondary. Each district may determine its own process for selection. Application forms must be downloaded from the TEA website @ http://www.tea.state.tx.us/awards/toy/. Criteria as well as samples of previous winning applications may also be viewed at this site. The application form includes essay questions on the following:

  • Education Issues and Trends
  • The Teaching Profession
  • Your Message as State Teacher of the Year
