The Region 16 TARGET PAALM grant
was recognized by the "Texas Capitol School House." This organization invited Cristal Kelso from Herford Bluebonnet to go to Austin with 4 students for the 2 day event in February,
2005. They set up a small classroom and the teacher conducted class as usual, so
the students didn't actually miss school. The legislative representatives walked around, viewed and visited the "classrooms." Only 15 school districts
were invited to participate.
Later the students were taken to the legislative chambers where they
were honored with a proclamation from the governor and recognized for "doing
great things." They had their pictures made with the legislators and toured the Capitol as well.
