Texas is one of 22 states with a process for approval and adoption of instructional materials. Region 16 Education Service Center provides preview and checkout of textbooks and instructional materials which are up for adoption each school year.

The Textbook Administration Division of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is responsible for coordinating the review, adoption, purchase and distribution of instructional materials for all Texas public schools and open-enrollment charter schools.
