| Region 16 ESC strives to
provide direction and leadership to the CTE programs
throughout the Panhandle. The staff assists districts
with implementation of the Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills (TEKS) for CTE and other various program needs along
with collaborating with various professional organizations
regarding CTE programs.
Career and technical education
programs are dedicated to preparing young people to manage
the dual roles of family member and wage earner. Career and
technical education programs enable students to gain
entry-level employment in a high-skill, high-wage, or high
demand job and/or

Achieve Texas--Success for All Students
According to the AchieveTexas website,
AchieveTexas is a system designed to help students (and their
parents) make wise education choices. It is based on the belief that the
curricula of the 21st century should combine rigorous academics
with relevant career education.
AchieveTexas uses the national
sixteen career clusters and Programs of Study (POS) within each cluster
to help guide students as they make choices about their education. For
more information please visit the Achieve Texas Website. A link has been
provided at the bottom of this page.
The State Plan for Career and Technical Education
The State Plan for
Career and Technical Education, 2005-2007, required by
Texas Education Code (TEC) §29.182, was developed to assist school
districts in providing quality Career and Technology Education programs
that prepare students for further education and eventual employment in a
technology-intensive world. The plan strongly supports local control of
Texas public schools by recommending strategies that guide district
implementation and improvement of Career and Technology Education
programs.
Provide opportunities
through a rigorous Career and Technology Education program for all
students to develop and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary
to think critically, solve problems, read, write, and communicate,
compute, and apply technology across all subject areas.
Objective 2: Guidance and Counseling
Provide a quality academic counseling and career guidance program for
all students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 12, offering broad
educational opportunities, furthering personal and intellectual
development, and promoting opportunities for career preparation with a
greater earning potential.
Objective 3: Partnerships
Develop, implement, and promote sustainable partnerships to ensure
program alignment with business and industry standards for current and
emerging occupations. Effective partnerships involve mentors who
engage and support students in career exploration, career preparation,
and continuing education.
Objective 4: Curriculum
Provide a well-balanced, rigorous curriculum that equips all
students with academic and technical knowledge and skills essential
for continuing education at the postsecondary level, managing the dual
roles of family member and wage earner, and gaining high-skill,
high-wage employment.
Objective 5: Professional Development
Provide comprehensive, relevant professional development opportunities
for teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure that all
students receive a quality education.
Objective 6: Accountability
Participate in a system of accountability that is supported by highly
qualified teachers, supportive school environments, challenging
assessments, valid and reliable data, and high standards for student
performance.
Objective 7: Administrative Leadership
Provide leadership, guidance, and resources necessary for local
programs to meet the objectives of the State Plan for Career and
Technical Education, 2005-2007. Quality career and technology
programs provide opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge
and skills to pursue a career pathway, engage in lifelong learning,
and become responsible and independent citizens.
