During
this workshop, the research and action steps will be presented for
several of the factors proven to increase student achievement including:
1) Guaranteed and viable curriculum;
2) Challenging goals and effective feedback;
3) Helping students effectively interact with new content;
and
4) Nine research-based instructional strategies proven to
increase achievement.
Participants will be able to apply the research recommendations for
instructional strategies and academic vocabulary to increase student
achievement.
Mark P. Foseid, a private consultant working with schools and
districts throughout the country, is a consultant for Marzano &
Associates with more than 30 years of experience in K-12 education. His
experiences include teaching at upper elementary and middle levels in
all core subject areas and in administration as Dean of Students,
Assistant Principal, and Elementary Principal. His work centers on the
study of learning, with practical applications of the research and
strategies supporting student achievement in standards-based systems.
Mark received his B.S. degree in
Biology and Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters
degree in Curriculum and Supervision from the University of Colorado. He
has industry laboratory research experience and has been recognized by
both the Cherry Creek School District and the Colorado Department of
Education for excellence in teaching
Mark has worked as a trainer for the
Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)
and has a ten year association with Dr. Marzano. He has successfully
implemented much of Dr. Marzano’s work into both his teaching and at the
building organizational level. Recently he co-authored
Handbook for Classroom Management that Works
with Dr. Marzano. He has consulted educators in
Dimensions of Learning,
Classroom Instruction That Works,
Classroom Management That Works,
What Works in Schools,
The Art and Science of Teaching,
standards-based curriculum design, leadership, and organizational
