The Title I
Statewide School Support/Parental Involvement Initiative
team, Terri Stafford, Margaret Barnes and Skip Forsyth,
will present two sessions, Parental Involvement
for Today’s Schools.
The morning session will provide the tools to
construct, implement, and evaluate quality Title I. Part
A written parental involvement policies and
school-parent compacts.
Participants will learn about the latest
legislative changes and program requirements pertaining
to No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
The afternoon session will focus on best
practices, such as: building capacity requirements,
surveys, strategies that work, and ice breakers.
Come learn some fun, yet growth activating
activities that will assist you in getting your parents
excited.
Terri, Skip
and Margaret, as a group, have been developing and
presenting parental involvement techniques that are
practical and easy to use within a traditional
educational system.
Their presentations are characterized by their
hands-on, no-nonsense approach combined with humor and
personal experiences to teach, challenge and inspire
audiences.
Terri Stafford
is Coordinator of the Title I Statewide School Support Initiative at
Region 16 Education Service Center. Terri has been a teacher,
counselor, and drug prevention specialist in a career that spans 20
years. She has a M.Ed. in psychology and counseling and has done
extensive work in the area of parental involvement. Terri has
published several articles and served as a Family Consultant for the
weekly television program "Prism". For the past several years,
Terri has been presenting parental involvement strategies across the
state. She is a dynamic presenter who brings her experiences to
light through her sense of humor and genuine candor. Terri has one
son, Cody, age 13.
Skip Forsyth
came into education as a second career. His educational
experience began as an I.S.S. supervisor at a high school in
Amarillo, TX. He taught science at a private Amarillo school for 2
years, and at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch for 6 years. He
joined Region 16 Education Service Center in 2004 as an Educational
Specialist in Title I and State Compensatory Education. Prior to
education, Skip served in pastoral ministry for 6 years in El
Paso, TX, and 6 years in Sydney Australia. He and his wife Pam
have been married for 26 years, and have a wonderful Border
Collie named Patch.
Margaret Barnes
began her teaching career at a private school in Gainesville, TX
for 2 years, followed by 15 years as an elementary math teacher in
Amarillo, TX. She received a master's degree in Instructional
Technology in 2004, and joined Region 16 Education Service Center in
2005 as an Education Specialist. Margaret and husband Ike have
been married for 31 years and are parents to Andrea - 27, Christopher -
25, and Clayton - 19.
