Career and Technical Education (CTE) Resources

College, Career, and Military Readiness(CCMR) Resources

Career and Technical Education is rigorous and relevant content that guides students to high-skill, high-wage, high-demand careers. Career and Technical Education in high school lays the solid foundation necessary for students to be successful in postsecondary educational institutions. This is achieved through a coherent sequence of courses. CTE is for every student who will have a career after high school!

Our Support Services:

• Serve as liaison between TEA and districts in providing technical assistance needed by districts to achieve quality CTE programs, enhancement of academic and technical knowledge and skills, quality career counseling and guidance activities, teacher certification activities, and career and technical education student organizations.
• Provide technical assistance to districts on all areas of CTE including Carl D. Perkins grant application and implementation process, Perkins Performance Indicators and CCMR indicators under A-F Accountability.
Coordinate and provide for CTE professional development activities for teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists, and teacher educators.
• Disseminate educational resources to districts.
Establish and maintain communications among districts colleges, universities, workforce development boards, and the TEA CTE staff.
• Provide activities to promote student enrollment in non-traditional courses and increase awareness and understanding of non-traditional careers.

In Texas, CCMR stands for College, Career, and Military Readiness.

It is a core accountability metric used by the Texas Education Agency to evaluate public high schools and school districts.A high school graduate is considered "CCMR-met" if they achieve at least one of the state-approved readiness benchmarks.

To earn a CCMR designation, a student typically completes one or more of the following:

College Readiness: Earning passing scores on the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment, completing dual-credit college courses, or scoring high on Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

Career Readiness: Earning an industry-based certification or completing an approved program of study.

Military Readiness: Enlisting in the United States Armed Forces.

Our programs are designed to boost lifelong learning and potential for success in schools and workplaces around the world. We're passionate about making a difference in all we do. Whether it's guiding students along their learning paths, enabling companies to develop their workforce, fostering parent, teacher, and counselor understanding of student progress, guiding job seekers toward career success or informing policymakers about education and workforce issues.

At the U.S. Department of Education's office of Federal Student Aid, our job is to fund students as they pursue a college or career school education. You'll see that the Financial Aid Toolkit focuses very much on that topic. However, we did want to share some information on college preparation to provide a fuller picture. Your students can find information at StudentAid.gov/prepare.

Texas has now launched Building a Talent Strong Texas, the new higher education strategic plan that aims to position Texas among the highest achieving states in the country and maintain its global competitiveness.  They will do this by focusing on three measurable, data-driven goals:

• Attainment of certificates and degrees so at least 60% of Texans ages 25-64
have a postsecondary credential of value by 2030.
• Postsecondary credentials of value aligned with workforce demands that will
raise incomes for individual Texans while reducing debt.
• Research, development, and innovation that drives discovery, improves lives,
broadens education, and creates new jobs
