Welcome to Migrant Services!

The purpose of the Texas Migrant Education Program (MEP) is to design and support programs that help migrant students overcome the challenges of mobility, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, and other difficulties associated with a migratory lifestyle. These efforts are aimed at helping migrant students succeed in school and successfully transition to postsecondary education or employment.

Each year over 1,800 students come to our region, following their parents who work with the varied agricultural products in the Texas Panhandle such as cattle, wheat, and cotton. While moving with their families to find work, these students transition from school district to school district and may begin to develop gaps in their education. The Migrant Education Program is geared toward filling in those gaps to prevent these students from falling behind their peers which increases the likelihood of not completing their education. The services provided by the Migrant Education Program within Region 16 range from academic intervention to parent engagement. Together, these services help migrant students have every opportunity possible to be successful from elementary school through high school and beyond.
