Staff Stories: Catherine Pratt

Region 16 Education Service Center is proud to recognize Catherine Pratt, our dedicated Education Specialist for Low Incidence Disabilities. With 14 years of hands-on experience in special education—from her early days as a paraprofessional to her current role supporting teachers—Catherine embodies the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and exceptional service.

Catherine’s journey in education began in classrooms where she gained invaluable experience across self-contained, inclusion, and co-teach settings. Today, she leverages that expertise to guide educators who work with students with complex needs. “When I was a beginning teacher, I often found myself needing additional support in special education. Now, I have the privilege of being that support for others,” Catherine explains.

She partners with teachers to brainstorm innovative ideas, troubleshoot classroom hurdles, and provide hands-on coaching. Her commitment to customer service, honed through Region 16’s training model, emphasizes responsiveness and building strong rapport with educators.

One of Catherine’s most notable success stories involved assisting a school district with a student facing complex physical needs. By introducing assistive technology devices, Catherine not only transformed the student’s learning experience—enabling independent work during crucial assessments—but also empowered the district to invest in lasting solutions.

Catherine understands that impact is measured by quality, not just numbers. “Even if I work with just one or two teachers at a time, those educators take what they learn and impact many more students,” she notes. This focus on quality service reflects a deep commitment to ensuring every teacher feels equipped and confident in supporting their students.

Beyond the classroom, Catherine extends her influence to the broader community. As Region 16’s demo center for the state Texas Technology Access Program (TTAP), she provides a vital resource for anyone—from employers to individuals with disabilities—seeking assistive technology solutions. This initiative not only strengthens community ties but also reinforces Region 16’s role as an indispensable partner in education.

Amy Barragan, Director of Tiered Services, observes, "Catherine is an exceptional team member whose passion for helping others shines through in every customer interaction. Her contagious enthusiasm not only elevates our customer service but also inspires her colleagues every day.” Catherin Pratt in her office

Catherine’s advice to those considering a career in special education is simple: “Just do it. It’s a rewarding position. Even on the hard days, the challenges build perseverance and passion.” Outside of work, her commitment as a parent to a 15-year-old and a three-year-old fuels her drive to enhance educational services, ensuring that every child receives the support they deserve.

With upcoming presentations at state conferences in Austin, Catherine is set to share her expertise on a larger stage, further expanding the positive impact of Region 16’s initiatives.

Catherine Pratt’s dedication and innovative approach make her a true asset to our team and a driving force behind our mission to empower educators and enrich the lives of students. Join us in celebrating her outstanding contributions to special education and customer service excellence.
