ASCENDER 9.0535 Update was installed on 2/24/25. This update corrects an issue to correctly send parent email addresses for SPPI-14 reporting. SPPI submission has been re-opened to all for this information to be sent. PLEASE READ:
Release 9.0535 addresses an issue where the ElectronicMailAddress field was not being included in the PriorYearLeaverParent API entity. This prevented email data extraction for prior-year leaver parents, impacting reporting accuracy. The system now ensures that email addresses are properly extracted and included when available, aligning with EdFi ODS requirements.
Additionally, ASCENDER Programming has been working in coordination with TEA to re-open the SPPI-14 submission window from February 24th through February 28th, allowing LEAs the opportunity to resubmit SPPI-14 data with the missing PriorYearLeaverParent email address.
NOTE: The student's email from Demo 1 is successfully extracting/sending.
ISSUE:
Priority 1 Parent and Priority 2 Parent email addresses were NOT pulling.
If an email exists on the parent (2023-2024 Yr: Registration>Maintenance>Student Enrollment - Contact tab) then the software update (9.0535) fixes it where it will send successfully in the next extract/send.
At this time, you can update ANY blank parent priority 1 and 2 email addresses so that it will send. This is up to you and whether or not you are able to obtain that information.
ACTION:
Resubmission will require LEAs to navigate to the TSDS>Core Collections>SPPI-14 - Prepare / Finalize screen and Reset their SPPI-14 Submission.
Once reset, LEAs will need to confirm an extract and send from ASCENDER completes, in TSDS>Core Collections>SPPI-14: re-promote, revalidate, run reports (ie SPPI-14 SPP0-000-001) to confirm that the parent email address is appearing and re-complete their submission.
ISSUE UPDATE:
It has come to our attention that some LEAs have been advised to enter fake email addresses (e.g., [email protected]) when a parent email is unavailable for the SPPI 14 submission. This is incorrect guidance. The parent email field is optional for SPPI 14, and there is no requirement to enter a value if one does not exist. Entering fake email addresses results in inaccurate data in both ASCENDER and TEA’s system.
Updated Guidance:
Do NOT enter fake email addresses (e.g., [email protected]) in the Parent Email field.
The Parent Email field is optional for SPPI 14 submissions. If no email is available, leave the field blank.
ESCs should ensure their LEAs are not instructing users to input placeholder or fabricated email addresses.
Next Steps After Submission:
If an LEA has already submitted data with fake email addresses, they should correct the records in ASCENDER and resubmit the data.
The window to resubmit and recomplete SPPI-14 submission closes Friday, February 28th.
