TCC/ASCENDER Programming implemented a global password policy update that impacts all portals. This message provides clarification on where password changes are mandatory versus when users are prompted, as well as current messaging differences across portals.
Global Password Policy
All ASCENDER portals now follow the same updated password standard:
- 16 or more characters (Mix of upper and lower case letters)
- Includes numbers and special characters
- No spaces
This policy is enforced system-wide, regardless of the messaging currently displayed within individual portals.
All Other Portals (Prompted, Not Mandatory)
For the following portals:
- ParentPortal
- StudentPortal
- Teacher Portal
- CareerPortal
- Member Portal
Users will be prompted to update their password only in the following situations:
- The user initiates a password change, or
- A new account is created
- The password has expired (this is set by districts)
These portals do not require a mandatory password reset at login. If any of the above situations are present, the updated password requirements will be expected.
Portal Messaging
Portals will display legacy password messaging (for example, referencing an 8–46 character range). This is a messaging-only discrepancy and does not reflect the current enforced password requirements.
Updated portal messaging will be delivered in a future software release to ensure consistency across all ASCENDER applications.
We appreciate your patience as we continue to enhance security while minimizing disruption for LEAs. If you or your districts have questions or need assistance, please contact your Education Service Center (ESC).
