who come to the region 16 EC ESC migrant education program MEP this video will introduce you to the program and help you understand who qualifies the type of work that allows students eligibility for the program have a worker qualify and how this program serves and supports students so who qualifies the migrant education program may serve any child is here to 21 who does not have a u.s. issued high school diploma or high school equivalency known as a g e d it's not only for students who are enrolled in your school district but also students who have never enrolled in your school such as a little ones 8025 or out-of-school youth the MEP is often misunderstood and misrepresented it is a program that is here to only serve immigrants simply because the word migrant appears in both but this program focuses on serving children whose families move for agricultural work the program serves just as many US citizens as it does countries around the world here on visas the MP focuses on the Moose at the worker and children make for jobs in the Agricultural and fishing industries not a new language spoken or residency status many educators are often surprised find out that one of their students qualify through this program until they learn how they qualify for my Grand Vacation how they qualify to qualify the student or someone in their household must have been placed in a seasonal or temporary agricultural job which must have lasted less than 12 months to travel across District boundaries and lived away from their home while engaging in the work finally the student or household member must have done this work and made the move because of economic necessity sometimes the workers will live in housing provided by the employer a motel or even in their car regardless of where they reside though moving and engaging in the qualifying word starts with a qualification for the MEP what are the types of work that allows students to qualify for the program culture and fishing are the two types of work recruiters look for to determine if a student may qualify for the program we don't have commercial fishing in our area let's talk about the agricultural like to is am I qualified for the migrant program some examples of jobs that qualify are weeding her home and crops harvesting crops milking cows feeding livestock branding cattle building or repairing livestock and crop fences meat processing many more jobs that qualify these are just a few that we often see in our area how does the worker qualify under the program definition a person is considered a worker when they travel away from their home the town where they live to a new location and stay away from their home for a few nights or more and return to her home or move on to another town where they might work in a new job the children don't have to go with the worker to the actual job site but at some point Synergy years of the worker going to way to work in that qualifying job your children must move or travel away from home with the worker give the program the name Grant because the children worker are migrating for work many children workers throughout the school year secure new jobs as work becomes available districts are aware of the late entries in early withdrawals and recognize that there could be gas in the student's education sometimes the students in your program never permanently move away from there but they do travel to other towns or states where their parents are their family Works in agriculture this often happens over summer vacation when no one is in school this morning still causes education Interruption for the child because they are not in their home care area where they can participate in educational opportunities over the summer how does this program support students the micro education program works to identify and fill in a student educational apps that were created when they move play new school the program supports students educationally after all their programs have provided their services to support the students it's like the sprinkles on a cupcake you can have the sprinkles unless you already have all the other supporting layers Madden 16 help students who did not pass through star there are failing classes and educating students about graduation plans after high school also be able to help students attend basic Health Service obtain food and clothing resources and help them find the resources to meet the other needs they might have to close the micro education program is an additional tool for schools to help students develop educational gaps do to them or their families moving forward and agricultural fishing the students often need all the help they can get in this program is here to help them succeed in their education if you have any questions please contact us we are here to help School students and families thank you
